7.5 euro – 24 Escudos DOBRA
Series: Portugal – Portugal Numismatic Treasure
D. João V, The Magnanimous, reigned in Portugal from 1707 to 1750. Known for his policy of neutrality, his reign stood out for being a great builder. The Dobra of 24 escudos, minted in the 18th century, was iconic. The new version, issued in 2024, maintains the baroque aesthetic, highlighting the bust of the king and the kingdom's weapons. Originally measuring 53 millimeters in diameter and weighing 85 grams, it remains the largest gold coin ever minted in Portugal.
