5 euro – The Pummerin Bell 1711-2011

The coin shows the Pummerin with the old bell in the upper part changing into the new bell in the lower half. The old Pummerin fell from the bell tower of St. Stephen’s Cathedral during a fire in the final days of World War II. A new bell was cast from its shattered pieces in 1951. In the background can be seen Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
