5 euro – 250th Anniversary of the foundation of the Guardia di Finanza

A stylized reworking of the heraldic emblem of the Guardia di Finanza, celebrating its past by merging it with the future and the challenges ahead. Against mountains, the sea and the sky - symbols of the natural context in which the military corps operates - a griffin stands out, the mythological guardian watching over the safety of the Treasury which is represented by the State's coffer, and the turreted crown symbolizing the noble commitment of the Fiamme Gialle. Obverse: In the centre, stylized version of the heraldic emblem of the Guardia di Finanza, that interprets the concept of security and provides a future vision of the role of the Corps, celebrating the past by combining it with the future and the challenges it will continue to face. This emblem includes various elements: the mountain, the sea and the sky, natural environments where the body operates, the griffin, a mythological animal which, according to legend, watches over the Treasury, represented by the State treasury, and the turreted crown. In exergue, the dates "1774-2024", respectively, the year of the establishment of the Guardia di Finanza and the year of the coin’s issue; below, the name of the designer “A.MASINI”; around, “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA”. Coin with coloured elements. Reverse: heraldic coat of arms of the Guardia di Finanza, consisting of a Samnite shield, with a griffin and a chest highlighted on a mountain, surmounted by a turreted crown and adorned with the emblems representing the honours and rewards for valour, delimited, below, by the motto "NEC RECISA RECEDIT", dedicated to the Corps by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio. Around, above and below respectively, the inscriptions “250° ANNIVERSARIO” and “GUARDIA DI FINANZA”; on the sides of the coat of arms, the value “5 EURO” and, on the right, “R”, identifying the Mint of Rome.
