5 euro – 150th Anniversary of the invention of the telephone by Antonio Meucci

Portrait of Antonio Meucci from an engraving by Giovanni Cantagalli published in 1889 in the magazine "L'Illustrazione Italiana" (Biblioteca del Museo di Storia della Fotografia Fratelli Alinari, Florence); in the background, stylised representation of the Telettrophone, the first telephone invented by Meucci. In exergue, the inscription " REPUBBLICA ITALIANA " and the name of the designer "A. MASINI".
Reverse
The composition is inspired by the typical phone token and represents a vintage phone in use between the sixties and early nineties with the logogram @, the internet symbol, at the centre of its rotary dial and electromagnetic waves.
Above, the year of the coin’s issue "2021"; in exergue, the inscriptions "150° DEL TELEFONO" and "5 EURO" respectively; on the left, "R", identifying the Mint of Rome.
