2.5 euro – Bock Casemates
Series: Luxembourg – Outstanding Constuction in Luxembourg
The Bock casemates were dug into the imposing strategic rocky promontory called Bock in the heart of the city of Luxembourg.
Kilometers of underground galleries were constructed in the 17th century under Spanish rule, and then enlarged twice to house troops and defence artillery.
This military structure is today one of the main tourist attractions in Luxembourg, also known as the “Gibraltar of the North”.
