10 euro – Bordalo II
Series: Portugal – Silver 10 euro coins
The third coin in the "Urban Contemporary Art" series is dedicated to Bordalo II. Artur Bordalo (Lisbon, 1987), grandson of the painter Real Bordalo, studied at the Faculdade de Belas Artes, in Lisbon, but did not finish his degree, opting to pursue his passion instead: the multidisciplinary approach to art and large-scale creations made from discarded material. Today, he is simultaneously a sculptor, a painter, a welder, and a graffiti artist no longer working in the shadows.
On both sides of the silver coin there is a half-moon made of recycled polymer, something which represented a new technical challenge for the Portuguese Mint, which joined forces with the Centre for Innovation in Polymer Engineering (PIEP).
Like all the works by Bordalo II, this coin will also be innovative and immediately recognisable as his.
