10 euro – 75th Anniversary of UNESCO
Series: Vatican City – Silver 10 euro coins
The Vatican Mint is issuing a 10 euro silver coin to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of UNESCO. The organization was founded in 1945 at the end of World War II in order to ensure lasting peace. UNESCO stands for “United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.” In the coin design artist Daniela Fusco features a dove with an olive branch in its beak (symbol of peace) and a ribbon on which are written three words symbolizing the commitment against any kind of war and discrimination: education-science-culture. On the right Saint Peter’s Basilica is depicted as a symbol of Christianity. Vatican City in its entirety was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984.
