10 euro – 50th Anniversary of the New Franc

Monnaie de Paris is paying tribute to the New Franc which was launched on 1st January 1960 following the Pinay-Rueff Plan adopted in 1958. This franc was commonly known as the Pinay franc or de Gaulle franc. It was seen as one of the instruments of structural economic reform in France. It celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2010. On its obverse is a representation of Roty’s Sower image. On the reverse, in the centre of the coin, an olive branch is crossed with an ear of corn. Bordering the upper section is some text which reads "cinquantième anniversaire du nouveau franc", written in a script which was typical of the New Franc centimes.
