50 pence - The Tailor of Gloucester™
Series: United Kingdom - Beatrix Potter
This tale was inspired by the real-life tailor, John Pritchard, whose staff created a suit overnight for the Mayor of Gloucester; Pritchard, however, told a different story of fairies finishing the work as he returned to his shop. With this in mind, Beatrix Potter created her own version which is filled with the charming characters that generations of readers have come to love. Even though the book is titled ‘The Tailor of Gloucester’, Simpkin, the tailor’s cat, and the mice who narrowly avoid becoming the cat’s supper thanks to the tailor, take centre-stage in this little tale. This 50p coin is the third coin to be released in the 2018 collection, and is available as a Brilliant Uncirculated and silver Proof edition. It comes in an acrylic case and is accompanied by a book featuring a cover exclusively designed for this set.
