50 euro - The Song of My Cid
Series: Spain - Silver 50 euro coins
The Song of My Cid is an anonymous epic poem that recounts heroic exploits inspired by the latter years in the life of the Castilian gentleman Don Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar. It is the first extensive narrative work in Spanish literature penned in a Romance language. The Spanish Royal Mint, wishing to pay tribute to one of the most important works in the history of Spanish literature, has minted three theme-related collector coins. The obverse portrays the equestrian statue of the Cid Campeador located in the city of Burgos and a depiction of the cathedral of this Castilian city. The reverse shows a setting with medieval musicians under a series of arches.
