50 euro - Judith II
Series: Austria - Klimt and his Women
Showing artistic truth without compromise, Nuda Veritas, on the coin's obverse, is a perfect example of Klimt's artistic vision. This was a vision that led Klimt to co-found the Vienna Secession, the artistic movement that rejected the conservatism of the early 20th-century Viennese art world. The coin's reverse features Judith II, in which Klimt revolutionised the image of women by depicting the saviour of the Israelites as a femme fatale who used her sexuality as a weapon.
