The Arena Opera Festival was inaugurated in 1913 with the famous Aida and the stage set designed by deco architect Ettore Fagiuoli. It is an important yearly event in Verona attended by music lovers from all over the world. The obverse of the coin shows an Egyptian woman in profile and elements representing Aida, the first opera played in Verona Amphitheatre; in the background a part of the Amphitheatre with the steps represented as a pentagram; in the upper part the inscription “ARENA DI VERONA”, the logo of the centenary of Festival Lirico dell’Arena di Verona (opera festival); in the lower the symbol “R” of the Italian Mint which took care of the mintage and the value “5 EURO”; on the left side “1913” (festival establishment year) and “2013” (issue year). On the right artist’s name “CASSOL”. The obverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino encircled by the inscription ”REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO”. Below the author’s name “A.NAPOLIONE”.
