20 kroner - Kayak Umiak - Women’s boat
Series: Denmark - Ship coins
The kayak originated in Greenland almost almost 4,000 years ago. It used to be essential in the life of the Inuit, who used it for hunting seal, etc. The umiak, with women at the oars, was the means of transportation in the summer season. The umiak was filled with children, summer tents, utensils, and sometimes dogs. It would return in late summer heavily laden with game and winter provisions.
