20 euro - 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing
What better way to celebrate one of the most technologically ambitious undertakings of all time with a coin that is technically ambitious in its own right? Combining state-of-the-art concave and convex design, colour application and a glow-in-the-dark effect, our 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing coin is a fitting tribute to that breathtaking moment in July 1969 when Neil Armstrong became the first person ever to set foot on the moon.
A television audience of 600 million watched in awe as the Armstrong uttered those immortal words, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” That magical moment was the culmination of the Apollo 11 mission, which was crewed by Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Aldrin piloted the lunar module Eagle and joined Armstrong on the lunar surface some 20 minutes later, while Collins single-handedly manned the command module Colombia in lunar orbit during the moon walk. The coin’s special concave obverse shows the moon landing with the distant Earth in colour and glow-in-the-dark stars in the background; the convex reverse shows the surface of the moon – a landscape that made the reality of the universe more palpable than ever before.
