100 euro - River Wien Gate
Series: Austria - Jugendstil
The River Gate was built in the years 1903 to 1906 and was opened to the general public on 15th November, 1906. In celebration of the River Gate’s centenary in 2006 the gate itself and its adjoining pavilions and promenade have been completely renovated and once again shine in their original white brilliance. This side of the coin depicts the gate from its more famous side, encasing the tunnelled exit where the River Wien flows into the City Park. This side shows one of the delightful ladies that flank the entrance from the street. In its entirety, the gate forms one of the most beautiful Jugendstil scenes to be found in the whole city of Vienna.
