Series: France - From Clovis to the Republic, 1500 years of French History
This series, which made its debut in 2011, pays tribute to the key French sovereigns who dominated the History of our nation. The series continues this year with Hugues Capet, Philippe II Auguste and Saint-Louis.
Hugues Capet (940-996) founded the Capetian dynasty which would last for more than 8 centuries. The symbol of this dynasty is the hand of justice representing the righteous and religious power of the King. On the obverse, there is a portrait of the King wearing the Capetian crown. His name appears along the edge of the coin. The hand of justice and the dates of Hugues Capet’s reign (987-996) appear on the reverse.
