Cuisine is one of the most striking elements of a people's culture, with an acknowledged impact on the economy and tourism, but also on how we relate socially, sharing knowledge, traditions and rituals around each dish. After all, “we are what we eat”. Casa da Moeda has created the Flavours of Portugal series to celebrate the variety and richness of Portuguese culture and cuisine, which opens with a coin featuring grilled sardines, a highly prized traditional dish often to be found at popular festivals. This collector coin was created by designer Jorge Silva, creator of the iconic "Sardines of Lisbon".
