10 euro - 750 years Amsterdam
Series: Netherlands - Gold 10 euro coins
The 750 year Amsterdam 10 Euro Coin Gold Proof is designed by Hans Gremmen. The collaboration between past and present if very well visible, both on the obverse and reverse of the coin. On the obverse, Dutch King Willem-Alexander is portrayed. He was drawn by the artist in a way that is similar to how former Dutch Monarchs were portrayed on coins.
The reverse of the gold coin consists of two parts. One half of the coin has the image of an old pliers from 1350 with the Amsterdam Coat of Arms on it. This is rumored to be the very first time that the city Coat of Arms was being used. This half of the coin also has a more matte finish. The other half of the coin contains modern typography, which has been used to write the text ‘750 jaar Amsterdam’ and the years 1275 – 2025. This half of the gold coin has a more shiny finish. Both parts come together by using the three crosses from the Amsterdam Coat of Arms in the middle of the reverse.
